Generative KI aus Sicht von Jugendlichen
Leibniz-Institut für Medienforschung | Hans-Bredow-Institut, 2026
Teenagers already have their own words for what AI does to them.
The Leibniz Institute for Media Research (Hans Bredow Institute) in Hamburg, one of Germany’s main centres of media research, published a qualitative study of how adolescents themselves see generative AI. Instead of figures — conversations and workshops in which the young describe in their own words what they use AI for and what it does to them.
What emerges is a picture of pragmatic, ubiquitous use — for school, for entertainment, for conversation — alongside an often surprisingly sober awareness of the risks: that it is easy to stop thinking for oneself, hard to tell truth from invention, more comfortable to talk to a machine than to a person. Adolescents already have their own words for this.
The value of the entry differs from the DAK data: it says not how many, but how — and whether adults hear the experience at all depends on how the young name it. For parents and teachers, a vocabulary for the conversation. Caveat: qualitative, small sample, no claim to representativeness.
