Die KI-Nutzung in Studium und Lehre — ein Review auf Grundlage empirischer Studien

Hochschulforum Digitalisierung, Arbeitspapier Nr. 91, styczeń 2026

Fast, pragmatic, unreflective — this is how learning with AI looks today.

The Hochschulforum Digitalisierung — a German higher-education forum on digitalisation — published in January 2026 a review of empirical studies on AI use by students and lecturers. Not a position paper but a survey of what has actually been measured at German universities.

The diagnosis: use is above all pragmatic. Tool skills rise incidentally, but the manner of use remains mostly unreflective and without systematic support from institutions. Students use AI a great deal and competently, and rarely with thought for what it does to their learning.

The authors add a thread missing from American studies: the risk that growing dependence on non-European platforms poses to academic freedom. For this library the entry is a voice from a neighbouring country and a different academic culture — reaching the same conclusion. Caveat: the review concerns universities, not personal use; we carry over the mechanism, not the figures.
