International AI Safety Report 2026

A report commissioned by governments — not by a university or a company — and prepared by an international panel of experts led by Yoshua Bengio. It covers the whole spectrum of risks from advanced AI; what matters for this library is its treatment of over-reliance.

The report describes automation bias: the tendency of users to accept a system’s output even when contrary signals are available. It stresses that this tendency undermines competence by discouraging active reasoning and verification — weakening both the authenticity of judgement and the capacity to act independently.

The value of this entry lies in its voice: it speaks institutionally, in language one can cite to an office, a school or an employer. For personal use it adds no new mechanism, but confirms the one the studies in this group describe, from a position hard to dismiss.
